WELCOME TO SAN DIEGO CITY COLLEGE GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

sdmilitaryed.org

We are a fully qualified minority institution under section 1046 (3) of the higher education act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1067k).

The department of military education at San Diego City College has been providing quality college education to military personnel both nationally and regionally since 1977. The majority of the military education staff is retired or veterans of the US Armed Forces.

Mission

The mission of the San Diego City College Government and Military Education Department has as its highest priority student learning and achievement. We directly support the educational requirements of the military by articulating courses for military rating-specific lower division education credit leading to Associates Degrees or transfer to a four-year college or university. Vocational education programs are also offered that meet specific government and industry needs. Our specialties are providing planning, resources, high quality instruction, continuous project maintenance, and assessment tools to meet the needs of the customer.

Vision Statement

San Diego City College will continue to build partnerships with the military and other government agencies at all levels, providing a dynamic training environment for students to be critically aware and life-long learners. City College is here to serve, engage, and prepare students to lead productive and rewarding careers.

Performance

San Diego City College has provided quality education and training to thousands of military and civilian personnel. SDCC, staffed with hundreds of highly trained and motivated personnel, has the ability to complete any project with a desirable outcome and consistently ranks high in performance evaluations. Located on two coasts, the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) and San Diego City College (SDCC) have provided contract instructional services for the past 30 years (1977) under more than 30 military contracts, training over 30,000 students annually in 80 different courses of instruction. Military education delivers instruction in everything from basic adult literacy and verbal skills to personal financial management and from diesel engines to highly technical and sophisticated communications and radar systems. Our instructors were first to use the Automated Electronic Classroom (AEC) system and to make curriculum changes that formed the basis for the Navy’s current Apprenticeship Technical Trainee Course. Supervisors and instructors reviewed and made significant changes to computer based courseware developed for Yeoman “A” and Personnel specialist “A” Schools. San Diego City College personnel continually review and recommend changes on all developed curriculum material. San Diego City College is also the first to be Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) 2004 conformant with certified lessons on line. SDCC is partnered with the Academic Advanced Distributed Learning Co-lab (ADL) at the University Wisconsin, Madison.

San Diego City College has operated successful military education programs at all skill levels for over a quarter of a century. In the 2002-2003 school year, City College offered over 100 college courses on five of the six major bases in San Diego with an enrollment of nearly 3,000, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars of savings in Navy Tuition Assistance funds. The sixth base, MCAS Miramar, is serviced by Miramar College, another campus of the San Diego Community College District. City College and/or the District have provided Military Contracts instructional services for the past 28 years in more than 30 military contracts, totaling over $400 million.
