Partnerships and Counseling
SDCC has partnership agreements with 63 California four year (Bachelor Degree) institutions as well as other universities across the country. For example:
SDCC is a member in good standing with Servicemen’s Opportunity College (SOC). Students who wish to transfer earned credit can easily do so through our affiliates or other SOC members. SDCC will provide transcripts to the students and to any other institution of higher learning a student is working with. Student counseling is critical in order for students to maintain a degree path, this can be a very complicated process. The Counseling Department at San Diego City College formulates a partnership between the student and SDCC to develop and follow the education path from admissions to graduation. Student life poses special challenges of managing academic, job, and personal responsibilities. We are committed to offering a variety of counseling services to students in order to facilitate and foster both personal and academic growth. Students may go to the following link:
http://www.sdcity.edu/studentresources/counseling/default.asp and take advantage of the wide variety of services available to the student. Counselors will provide assistance to students, who are undecided about a career or major or need assistance setting an academic goal, should seek career counseling. Career counseling will help a student become more self-aware. Articulation
Military students who complete articulated courses in a Navy program at any military base in the United States and meet the San Diego Community College District performance and competency criteria will be granted college units at San Diego City College. Through articulation; instruction and student learning including assessments of knowledge, skill and abilities; courses are reviewed to ensure each student’s transition from the military to SDCC occurs without unnecessary duplication of effort or loss of credit.
Benefits for establishing articulation are:
- Successful completion of the course or program is recognized as an integral part of educational preparation in the specified occupational field.
- Students can apply the units acquired in the military program toward Associate Degree requirements.
- San Diego Community College District will benefit by attracting students who have attained proficiency in core competencies and demonstrated an interest in and commitment to the specified occupational field.
- Military students will recognize the value of the instruction and fieldwork as part of their total career and life skills preparation.
To apply for and receive credit for Navy courses the student shall complete the course(s) and receive a passing grade on their transcript. In addition the student will complete the college application form and submit a signed signature page to the Student Services Office at the college where credit is being granted.
Once the appropriate documents are received in the College Evaluator’s Office the credits will be posted to the student’s college transcript. All units will be posted as a CR (for credit only.) These credits can be applied to an Associate Degree program at the San Diego Community College District.
DCC can and will articulate your courses, award college credit, and provide transcripts at the end of the training pipeline. Rating roadmaps in the Navy College Program identify the SMART Transcript information with recommended college credit for Navy training and rating-specific work experience across a Navy career. We will use this information for the awarding of credit based on the degree path of each student. Our degree roadmaps are rating-relevant degrees and make the most of recommended credit for the Navy and on-the-job training. It is important to note that even though one degree path and rating are used in the Articulation of Navy Courses to Certificates and Degrees other degree paths and ratings are available and may be utilized. The following link to our website will provide you with more rating relevant roadmaps by rating or degree: http://www.mysdcc.sdccd.edu/MySdccMilEd/roadmap.htm. Currently we have 80 major degree and 90 certificate areas.

Articulated Fields of Study
California Articulation identifies transferable, lower division, introductory, preparatory courses and sequences commonly taught within each academic discipline on college campuses. The system assures students that courses and sequences on one participating campus will be similar in content to the comparable course and sequence on another participating campus. Each college maintains its own course numbering system and its own requirements. The following is a sample representing fields of study which San Diego City College has articulated with four year colleges and universities.
